Resurrection City Free University is so named to pay homage to Martin
Luther King Jr. and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference's final
major campaign in the Spring of 1968. Resurrection City was the physical
encampment in Washington, D.C. of the Poor People's Campaign--a national
movement to press our political leaders for an Economic Bill of Rights.
2008 is the Fortieth Anniversary of Resurrection City, and thus we have
chosen it as a name for the Free University as a way to continue to work
towards The Dream and to reopen our eyes to the prizes that have yet to come
to fruition. Our goal is to provide educational opportunities that treat
the DNC not end in and of itself, but as a means to strengthen our
collective ability to transform and continue the national and global
struggle for peace and justice.
The University will teach on the ground tactics, strategies, and theory that can be utilized immediately at the Convention and ack in your own communities.
The course schedules can be found through the links to the left. And don't worry, you don't have to register!
